24th January 2023

MAHARAJA AGRASEN SCHOOL OF LAW IN ASSOCIATION WITH IIC 5.0 & IPR LEGAL AND ETHICAL MATTERS COMMITTEE ORGANIZES FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME ON INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS (ONLINE MODE) 1ST– 3RD FEBRUARY, 2023.

The significance of intellectual property can be traced to the ancient use of stamps on bricks by Roman brick-makers for the purpose of identification, and even before that when the leaders of the ancient Greek city of Sybaris granted monopoly for one year on cooking a delicious dish to its creator. Obviously, much has changed since then with the advancement of science and technology and global business. Intellectual property is a product of human intellect and the rights granted on it allow its owner to benefit from the fruits of this intellectual endeavour by creating a monopoly over it. Such benefit is not always a natural right but requires recognition by a statute. Intellectual property rights (IPR) are defined as ideas, inventions, and creative expressions based on which there is a public willingness to bestow the status of property. IPR provide certain exclusive rights to the inventors or creators of that property, in order to enable them to reap commercial benefits from their creative efforts or reputation. There are several types of intellectual property protection like patent, copyright, trademark, etc. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) under Article 27 refers “Everyone has the right to the protection of the moral and material interests resulting from any scientific, literary or artistic production of which he is the author.” This FDP will cover the various aspects relating to Intellectual Property Rights and its practical applicability.
